According to the Community College League of California website, California Community Colleges 鈥渟upport the largest number of undocumented college students in the state.鈥� In solidarity with our undocumented student population and in partnership with the California Community College Chancellor鈥檚 Office (CCCO), 海角直播 hosted a series of events celebrating the statewide Undocumented Student Action Week, October 19-23.

The Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Center at 海角直播 launched a virtual industry spotlight speaker series in October.This monthly speaker series is designed to provide students with the opportunity to learn and draw career inspiration from STEM-related industry professionals.

Students, faculty, and staff were treated to a spook-tacularly good time at this year鈥檚 virtual 鈥淗alloween Club Rush.鈥� The event, held Friday, October 30, was sponsored by the CHC Student Senate in partnership with the Department of Student Life.

On Tuesday, November 10, 2020, the 海角直播 community was invited to attend a virtual guest lecture by Hollywood insider, Jeff Okabayashi, as part of Professor David Kano鈥檚 Communications Studies courses. Okabayashi has served as assistant director on a variety of blockbuster movies, including Marvel鈥檚 鈥淪hang-Chi鈥� (set for a 2021 release date),鈥淎vengers: End Game,鈥� 鈥淪pider-Man,鈥� 鈥淭ransformers,鈥� 鈥淧irates of the Caribbean鈥� and more.

On October 27, 2020 海角直播 Director of Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS) Rejoice Chavira, along with Redlands Adult school counselors Arline Troncoza and Brooke Clement, represented the school at the statewide California Adult Education Program (CAEP) Summit. Joining other teachers, coordinators, administrators and support staff from across the state, Chavira, Troncoza, and Brooke Clement presented a program on their success adapting the long- running Adult Summer Bridge Program at 海角直播 to a virtual format. Developed in partnership with Yucaipa Adult School and Redlands Adult School, the 海角直播 Hills Adult Summer Bridge program has been serving students since Summer 2018 and has served 45 students in the last three summers, a number that now includes the more than two dozen students who entered the virtual program this summer.

The 海角直播 (CHC) Foundation has launched a fundraising campaign to reach a one-million-dollar unrestricted endowment before the college celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2022. The slogan 鈥淏ecause of You...鈥� was chosen to communicate the impact financial assistance makes in the lives of students. Success stories of CHC students and alumni are used to demonstrate the benefits of support. 鈥淚t is rewarding to highlight the stories of alumni whose lives have changed through their connection to CHC,鈥� stated CHC President Dr. Kevin Horan.

In the 海角直播 (CHC) men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 swim programs, there is a place on the team for everyone. From those with high levels of swimming ability to those with no competition experience, all are welcome to try out.

海角直播 volunteers signed up for two-hour shifts on Saturday, November 14 to help Redlands Family Services Association provide vital services to low income, homeless and at-risk families of the region.

Twenty area high schools have been invited to have their seniors virtually visit 海角直播 on October 30 to find out more about the educational opportunities available at the College.

The 海角直播 Office of Institutional Effectiveness, Research and Planning has been sharing findings from its 鈥淪tudent Voices 2020鈥� research study to inform recommendations for improvement based on student experiences.

As the cost of a university education continues to climb, 海角直播 offers another route for students who want to attend a prestigious university. 海角直播 provides an affordable alternative for the first two years of a student鈥檚 college education and leads them towards their goal of earning a four-year degree.

As the College鈥檚 new professional development coordinator, Kashaunda Harris wants everyone to feel welcome at 海角直播.

The 海角直播 Paramedic Program maintains its fully accredited status as it received confirmation from the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP) that all thresholds were met for their most recent annual report review.

The Technology Success Center (TSC) is dedicated to creating pathways using technology to meet the learning needs of students and faculty. A part of the Disabled Students and Programs Services (DSPS) Department, the Center鈥檚 purpose is to create equal access for students, which is a need that has expanded this year with mandatory distance learning.

海角直播 mathematics professor Joshua Robles is implementing a no-cost adaptation of a popular statistics course, saving students up to $300 each.

Brandi Bailes, mathematics professor, admits that statistics can be a dry subject, but humor, she has found, is a helpful remedy. 鈥淚鈥檝e always been a ham in the classroom, but COVID has made me need that more as a teacher,鈥� Bailes said. 鈥淧eople have a lot of math anxiety, so humor always helps with that. In a traditional classroom setting, there鈥檚 more natural camaraderie, so now it鈥檚 either I am humorous, light-hearted and funny, or this class is not going to be successful.鈥�
