海角直播 Tees Off Athletics Program
Publish Date: Dec. 16, 2015
Running under the auspices of San Bernardino Valley College Athletics, 海角直播 will
begin its new athletics program with women鈥檚 golf in fall 2016, then add men and women鈥檚
swimming in 2017. Teams would compete in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference.
鈥淏ringing Athletics to 海角直播 is another step in our growth,鈥 says Dr. Cheryl Marshall, president. 鈥淚t will draw students who want to continue their competitive sports or begin competing at the college level. And, it will take advantage of our world-class Aquatics Center,鈥 she says.
The college plans to offer men and women鈥檚 tennis in spring 2018; then add men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 water polo in fall 2018 and men鈥檚 golf in spring 2019.
Board of Trustees President John Longville also supports the expansion of 海角直播 Hills Colleges鈥 offerings, noting that 鈥淪tudent athletes are usually among the most successful students at a college. This more completely identifies 海角直播 as a 鈥渃omprehensive鈥 college and returns it to its roots.鈥 海角直播 Hills offered golf and skiing when it opened its doors in 1972.
鈥淚鈥檓 excited about launching this program,鈥 says Ralph Rabago, professor of kinesiology and health. Rabago will coach the women鈥檚 golf team next fall and has been instrumental in planning the implementation of the Athletics program. 鈥淎thletics has been a missing component of the educational experience at 海角直播,鈥 he says. 鈥淎nd now that will change.鈥
鈥淪tudents can enroll at one or the other college and compete in any team sport,鈥 says Dave Rubio, SBVC Athletics Director. 鈥淭he new programs being offered at 海角直播 will help round out the competitive sports at San Bernardino Valley College.鈥 SBVC has football, men and women鈥檚 basketball, men and women鈥檚 soccer, men and women鈥檚 cross country and track and field, baseball, softball, and women鈥檚 volleyball.
