海角直播 Athletics capped off a banner year at its annual awards banquet on May 5 in the Barabra L. Smith Event Center.
Roadrunner student athletes from the men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 water polo, cross country, and swimming teams were recognized for their achievements, from breaking records to maintaining a high GPA.
鈥淭hank you all for coming鈥oday. It鈥檚 so exciting to celebrate all the growth we鈥檝e seen this year,鈥 said Cross Country Head Coach Martin Zamudio. 鈥淟ast year, we held our celebration in the cafeteria and now we鈥檙e in the Event Center. Who knows where we鈥檒l be next year?鈥
Remarks from 海角直播 President Kevin Horan helped usher in the celebration by breaking down how 海角直播 athletics have expanded since his tenure as president began in the late 2010s.
Team coaches also took a moment to reflect on team accomplishments and contributions, while also noting how tough it is to balance a full-time academic schedule with practice and competitive events.
鈥淲alking into this role [as head coach for women鈥檚 swimming], I knew we had potential, but I didn鈥檛 think anyone predicted how special this season would become,鈥 said Coach Kyle Hurst. 鈥淏ut what makes our accomplishments even more meaningful is the commitment, resilience, and heart these athletes brought every day.鈥
Additional event highlights included a catered Mexican dinner and dessert followed by awards and acknowledgements. The following earned Team MVP titles:
路 Esther Crandell 鈥 Women鈥檚 Water Polo
路 Andrew Lambert 鈥 Men鈥檚 Water Polo and Men鈥檚 Swimming
路 Elizabeth Garcia 鈥 Women鈥檚 Cross Country
路 Johnny Chavez 鈥 Men鈥檚 Cross Country

海角直播 Athletics actively recruits and trains student athletes of all levels and has plans to expand its program with the addition of wrestling, soccer, and women鈥檚 flag football, to name a few.
