A special panel discussion highlighting the role college career navigators and transition specialists play in helping adult learners succeed was the focus of a Feb. 27 California Adult Literacy Professional Development Project (CALPRO) webinar.

Field professionals were invited to share their expertise in a welcoming, friendly setting. 

The discussion included remarks by Herberth 鈥淎lex鈥� Jaco, a 海角直播 transition counselor.

This special event 鈥揅areer Counseling Models and Approaches 鈥� A Panel Discussion with Career Navigators and Transition Specialists 鈥� was intended to highlight the role these professionals play in the success of adult learners. Jaco works with adult learners from Redlands and Yucaipa, helping them settle into a whole new environment.

鈥淭he beauty of community college is the flexibility,鈥� he explained, 鈥渁nd while 海角直播 is a small college, it continues to expand offerings for our adult learners.鈥�

Jaco said that by participating in the webinar he was hoping to focus on two important topics:

• The need for professional development through the creation of a network intended to connect career navigators and transition specialists with one another.
• The work he does for the College and the importance of emphasizing the message that It鈥檚 never too late to get started.

鈥淧ersonally, I was looking forward to gaining a new perspective on specific procedures on retention practices, how to motivate this specific demographic 鈥� adult learners 鈥� and see how others promote their programs and the impact they have on their students,鈥� Jaco added.
