CHC student Grace McCray and alumna Ashley Mascarenhas along with CHC faculty, staff, and administrators planned a month of events and activities to celebrate Black History Month at the College.

Vice President of Student Services Delmy Montenegro-Spencer welcomed guests at the February 2 opening ceremony. Music Professor Mark McConnell provided background on 鈥淟ift Every Voice and Sing,鈥 and Gilbert Agyeman-Boakye, CHC nurse practitioner, introduced the 2022 national theme of Black Health and Wellness.

The College hosted events including movie screenings; a discussion with Professor Ryan Bartlett on Pariah, an independent film about the Black LGBTQIA+ experience; a discussion with Professor Robert Brown about the One Book, One College novel Between the World and Me; and an exploration of mental wellness facilitated by Art with Impact, a nonprofit group who promotes mental wellness by creating space for young people to learn and connect through art and media. The month will close with a celebration of Langston Hughes鈥 poetry, collaborations, and influence.
