海角直播 kicked off Black History Month 2022 with a powerful opening event highlighting this year鈥檚 national theme for Black History Month is 鈥淏lack Health and Wellness.鈥 Participants watched a recorded rendition of鈥淟ift Every Voice and Sing,鈥 a ballad widely known as the U.S. black national anthem and discussed its importance to the Black community and American society as a whole.

海角直播 Health and Wellness Center鈥檚 very own Nurse Practitioner Gilbert Agyemang- Boakye led an insightful presentation on topics of black health and wellness while acknowledging racial healthcare disparities. Agyemang-Boakye began the presentation by sharing experiences from his upbringing in Ghana and suggesting possible causes for the disproportionate health inequalities that impact African Americans.

Agyemang-Boakye conveyed his optimism in paving a way forward using a holistic health approach that encompasses mental, social, emotional, physical, and spiritual health. Agyemang-Boakye provided a list of resources available to staff, faculty, and students at the 海角直播 Health and Wellness Center that promote health equity and racial justice in the healthcare field.
